Celebrate Flexible Summer Hours!

July 16, 2014

Baudville is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If you've never been to Michigan's west coast in the summer, I highly recommend it as a summer vacation destination. We've got some of the best fresh water beaches, great dining, and some fantastic boutiques!

Given that it's so awesome outside, it's not easy to spend the few weeks of sun and fun that we have sitting behind our desks! Much to our surprise, a few weeks ago our CEO announced that we are going to pilot a summer hours program in order to enjoy a little more outside time with our friends and loved ones!

At Baudville, we support the "work hard, play hard" mantra, so this summer we're putting it to the test. Eligible full-time salaried employees have the opportunity to work more hours throughout the week with the option to take every other Friday off. Eligible full-time hourly employees have been given one extra day of PTO to use in the month of July or August. Pretty awesome, huh?

Last Friday was the first day available for the flex time and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The temperature was just right, and the office was a ghost town. It was perfect.

Having the option of spending extra time with our families, getting outside and enjoying the Michigan summer, and just taking a break from the daily grind is a privilege. If you've considered offering your employees some flex time, you don't have to jump in and commit all at once. Try a pilot program to see how it goes. Chances are, your employees will work hard for you if they know you value and appreciate their time.

Now get outside and soak up the summer!
